Open Source Civic EV Kit

I always wondered how much this kit really cost me, aside from tools, so I assembled a total parts price list and uploaded it to the Civic-EV Google Group here: [link] I'm a bit surprised I came out below $10K (barely). For those of you who have done conversions, please check my spreadsheet and let me know what I missed.

Toyota made the car, the Prius, that made plug-in conversions possible, and now they are trying to rein in the desires unleashed. Neither CARB incentives nor the efforts of Plug-in Partners have moved the auto makers to produce plug-in hybrids, so conversion efforts are moving along. HybridsPlus and EDrive have converted cars.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At that point, we expect the aftermarket companies prices to have come down sufficiently so that their conversions will be attractive to owners of hundreds of thousands of hybrids already on the road. So far, most start as hybrids.
Porsche 914 EV Conversion

I find out this morning from Ross Cunniff (who also recently completed the 914 AC kit), that he has had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS with his CCPower DC-DC converter. Since I finished the first kit, Electro Auto didn't want to replace my unit because they wanted me to find out more information before I simply blew up another one.

Followed Google Maps to hit Hosur road - and from then on the Maps was switched off. With the cruise control on, managed to have a lovely conversation with Karthik on Jared Diamond’s excellent book Guns, Germs and Steel. (In We switched on Google Maps and left for Ooty. But that is not the case in the cockpit.

In most conversions cost is about the same because of needless weight. Many EV groups online for more info or google EV clubs or EV racing and follow the website’s links. Lead batts are around 98% recycled. In EV’s they do need replacing in about 5 yrs if done right.
