Open Source Civic EV Kit

After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. All the commercially available freeway-capable (70 mph) EVs are priced way out of reach for the average consumer.

Back to being there In-person events included an EV parade from Little Rock to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a new 6-unit EV charging station in Lonoke, Arkansas, as well as a second ribbon-cutting at a charging station in Walsenburg, Colorado. The Tucson Electric Vehicle Association in Arizona showcased conversions and self-built vehicles.

It seems that Mike is more of a mechanical person than an electronics person. Apparently I'm the only person with an operational AC kit currently, although several other people are hot on the trail to finishing theirs. When I told Mike that I easily pulled > 150 amps during acceleration, he seemed a bit surprised.

In most conversions cost is about the same because of needless weight. Lead batts are around 98% recycled. In EV’s they do need replacing in about 5 yrs if done right. But that cost in a built as an EV is much less than an ICE’s costs by about 1/2.
