How to convert your car into an EV

Converting a traditional ICE vehicle into an Electric Car is a very appealing prospect for many who want to drive in style while still staying green. Imagine the power of an old ford muscle car or the utility of a Volkswagen camper van but entirely electric.

EV Conversion demand is booming in Australia and for good reason. Electric Vehicles are the future, but we can still hold onto the past and its beautiful, unique vehicles. There is no reason to discard the world's beloved gas guzzlers if we convert them instead!

If you’re interested in converting a car to an EV, like many in Australia are at the moment, you need to be aware of the option you have, and, the precautions you need to take.

The easiest way to convert an EV is to have professionals do it for you. This is the choice that most people make when converting an EV.

At EVolution, we have years of experience converting ICEs to EV, having satisfied many conversion demands in that time. If you want professionals who will work alongside you to convert your dream car, our team is here for you.

We recently launched a new hub for our EV conversions, The Electric Car Cafe. This is the place to go if you're interested in an EV conversion Learn more about ECC Or:

If you want to be more hands-on with your projects, another option is for you to undertake your own EV conversion. We only really recommend this if you are knowledgeable about vehicles and have prior experience working with cars. When undertaking a DIY conversion, the NUMBER ONE thing to keep in mind is safety. Before you step anywhere near a potential conversion you need to make sure you are aware of how to safely work with and around Electric Vehicles.

Training for this can be found across the internet but we highly recommend EV Alliance’s 'Electric Vehicle High Voltage (HV) Safety Training', created by some of Australia’s best in the EV sector. This course will provide you with detailed information and training, including instructions on PPE required and protocols that you should be following in an EV workshop. This all-encompassing course will correctly prepare you to work with and around High Voltage, so you can comfortably convert your EV knowing you have the best training around.

If you’re interested in converting your own EV, or just intrigued about the world of EV conversion, EV Alliance also has a monthly ZOOM webinar with Australian and New Zealand speakers specialising in EV conversions. Join here: cutt.ly/chargedchat
