Ford China sells record number of passenger cars in May, up 23%

Ford’s China passenger car joint venture, Changan Ford Mazda Automotive Ltd. (CFMA) posted record sales of 34,550 wholesale Ford-brand cars in May 2012, a 23% increase compared to May 2011. Results were driven by the popularity of the new Focus, with almost 13,000 units sold.

Ford China sold 48,608 combined wholesale units of passenger car and commercial vehicles in May, an 8% increase from May 2011. In the first five months of 2012, Ford China sold 224,882 wholesale units.

The Focus is the first of 15 new vehicles Ford will bring to China by 2015. At Auto China 2012, Ford unveiled three new SUVs it will introduce in China as part of its aggressive growth plan: the EcoSport, Kuga and Explorer.

Ford’s commercial vehicle investment in China Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) sold 14,056 wholesale vehicles this month, down 16% from last year.

Acording to Bloomberg news, automakers in China "disclose the number of vehicles sold to Chinese dealers -- instead of consumers", furthermore, it reported that inventory at dealers is piling up!
