Nicolas Hulot, France’s new minister responsible for environment and energy, presented the country’s new climate plan at a press conference at the Ministry. Among the many actions outlined in the plan is the targeting of ending the sale of cars emitting greenhouse gases (“ gaz à effet de serre ”) by 2040.

Estimates put the electric-drive share of new vehicle sales at between 7 - 10% by 2030. The report also covers an assessment of the potential contribution from reductions in short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs). This has raised hopes that emissions have peaked, as they must by 2020 to remain on a successful climate trajectory.
