So imagine a million electric cars on US roads which all need to change these batteries in say 2015. Furthermore, changing the battery pack on say a Toyota Prius often costs a fortune, at least in most European countries, so such cars better be VERY cheap, but they’re not. How will the pressures of climate change, limited fossil fuel resources and the mainstreaming of "green" consciousness reshape society?

It isa fundamental change in direction for GM. Ive found it facinating how car commercials changed the main MPG number they promoted before gas went over $4 a gallon as city miles. Regardless of past mistakes (EV1) they should be supported for trying to bring a car to market that actually changes things significantly.
