Clean clouds and non-light-absorbing (transparent) particles scatter or reflect sunlight, reducing the amount of solar energy that is absorbed by the surface. BC suspended in the atmosphere absorbs some incoming solar radiation, heating the atmosphere. Most solar radiation is absorbed by the Earth’s surface and warms it.
