California ARB developing Clean Miles Standard for ridesharing companies

With the enactment of SB 1014 ( earlier post )—the Clean Miles Standard and Incentive Program—the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is to develop and to implement new requirements for transportation network companies (TNCs)—i.e., On 22 February, CARB is holding a public workshop to disclose its plans for developing the Clean Miles Standard.

The FY 2011-2012 plan focused primarily on five areas of interest: sustainable communities; behavior and technology adoption; health and air pollution exposures; air pollution science; and greenhouse gas targets. Development of sustainable communities strategies can also provide an opportunity for associated criteria pollutant emission reductions that will be needed to attain air quality standards for ozone and particulate matter as well as reduce near-roadway exposures.

Switzerland’s top ranking reflects strong performance across most issues, especially air quality and climate protection.
