The Government of Canada has established a Heavy Oil Working Group. Comprising countries such as Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, the United States and Venezuela, the Heavy Oil Working Group will collaborate on clean energy research to reduce the impact of fossil fuel development. Colombia jumped 40 spots, from 98 th to 58 th , while Croatia moved up from 57 th to 37 th and Russia improved from 60 th to 51 st. Sulfur is found naturally in crude oil. Overall, the majority of countries are moving toward low-sulfur, cleaner fuels. The United States placed 46 th , down two slots.

Fats and greases and inedible oils are opportunity feedstocks, but the US supply of fats and greases is probably on the order of less than 10 million barrels, closer to 1-2 million barrels on an annual basis. Really the question is can the feedstocks be procured at a price competitive to petroleum oil. Earlier post.)
