Propel Fuels expands retail sales of drop-in renewable diesel across Southern California; $2.59/gallon

Propel Fuels has expanded its sales of Diesel HPR (High Performance Renewable) to locations across Southern California. Utilizing Neste’s NEXBTL renewable diesel, Propel’s Diesel HPR is a low-carbon, drop-in renewable fuel that meets petroleum diesel specifications and can be used in any diesel engine.
Diesel HPR made its North American debut in March 2015 at 18 Propel stations across Northern California. (Earlier post.) In HPR’s first three months of sales, Propel has seen a 300% increase in gallons sold compared to its former biodiesel product (B20). Propel customers have also provided overwhelmingly positive feedback on the fuel, validating HPR’s performance and value to drivers, according to the company.

In addition to new retail locations, Propel has launched Diesel HPR commercial and bulk availability for business and government fleets statewide. Delivered in bulk to businesses and agencies, Propel’s HPR is bundled with the company’s patented CleanDrive emissions accounting software, allowing fleets to easily quantify and report GHG reductions and air quality benefits.
Diesel HPR is now available at 13 Propel locations across Southern California markets including:
Los Angeles/Orange County: Fullerton, Harbor City, La Mirada, Lakewood, Norwalk, Torrance and Wilmington
San Diego: Chula Vista and Kearny Mesa
Inland Empire: Arcadia, Claremont, Hemet and Ontario

A quick check of the app showed Diesel HPR was selling for $2.59/gallon at the Kearny Mesa station in the San Diego region—essentially at parity with the lowest priced diesel in the area, according to Gasbuddy.com, and well below some of the highest priced diesel in the area at around $4.00 per gallon.
Diesel HPR is designated as ASTM D-975, the standard for all ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel in the US, and is recognized as “CARB diesel” by the California Air Resources Board even though it contains no petroleum. According to the US Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center, renewable diesel’s high combustion quality results in similar or better vehicle performance compared to conventional diesel, while California Air Resources Board Low Carbon Fuel Pathways show that Neste renewable diesel can reach up to 70% greenhouse gas reduction compared to petroleum diesel, depending upon the feedstock.
Propel has priced Diesel HPR competitively to attract customers to try the fuel and demonstrate its high value both in terms of price, but also in regards to added power and torque seen through use of HPR, in addition to the lower, cleaner emissions, according to a spokesperson for the company. Propel intends for Diesel HPR to always be price competitive with traditional diesel across all of their pumps.
Im glad that petroleum has some price competition. All my life I dreamed that, a price competition in the fuel market. I have to buy so much gasoline at high price and im fedup. Here in quebec Canada the majority of price come from state tax, this is double the oppression as gas companies all work together to sell at high prices and the quebec state has the highest taxs in the north-America on top of that. Also there is so much big cars and suvs going fast on the highway, this is increasing demand that push prices up
