VIA Motors announced a voucher program for Chicago-area fleet and business owners that will reduce the initial costs of owning a VIA Motors extended range pickup truck, extended range electric passenger van, or extended range electric cargo van. VIA VTRUX offers up to 40-mile battery range and. The extended range electric vehicles from VIA Motors are also already eligible for the $7,500 Federal Tax Incentive.

Merc wants the electric smart to perform badly, to have a short range and little power, so that it dosent eat up other products in the lineup. It is probably possible to make a 20k electric smart that outperforms most other cars on the road in everything except range and top speed. Competition is going to force them to produce a comfortable, usable, extended range EV for that price, and I will just have to wait.
