EPA to award up to $5M for projects to reduce diesel emissions at ports

Green Car Congress

EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ) will award up to $5M combined for proposals ( EPA-OAR-OTAQ-14-07 ) that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions in terms of tons of pollution produced by diesel engines and diesel emissions exposure, from fleets operating at marine and inland water ports located in areas of poor air quality. Clean Alternative Fuel Conversions: up to 40% of the cost (labor and equipment) of an eligible clean alternative fuel conversion.

EPA Proposes to Streamline Approval Process for Fuel Conversion Systems

Green Car Congress

Conversion systems allow vehicles to run on alternative fuels; most conversions involve switching gasoline or diesel vehicles to operate instead on a gaseous fuel such as natural gas or propane; an alcohol fuel; or electricity. The new options would reduce some economic and procedural impediments to clean alternative fuel conversions while maintaining environmental safeguards to ensure that acceptable emission levels from converted vehicles are sustained.

EPA updates rules to ease commercialization of alternative fuel conversion systems

systems that alter a conventionally-fueled vehicle or engine to enable it to run on an alternative fuel. The updated final rule covers alternative fuel conversion of light-duty vehicles and heavy-duty highway vehicles and engines. While properly engineered conversion systems can reduce or at least not increase emissions, poorly designed systems can lead to much more pollution.

California-to-Canada Hydrogen Road Rally Starts 26 May

Green Car Congress

Fuel cell technology is on the verge of becoming a practical alternative to burning gasoline. These funds were used to support projects that reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by using alternative fuels. To achieve this goal, 20% of petroleum used in California cars will be replaced with clean alternatives, including electricity, biofuels, hydrogen and other options by 2020.
