Back in April at the Shanghai auto show, Polestar revealed a new electric SUV called the Polestar 4 which it called ā a new breed of Electric SUV coupeā.
The Swedish-based company has now announced that it will begin production of this new electric SUV ahead of customer deliveries before the end of 2023.
This first vehicle which rolled off the production line was in Polestar signature Snow white colour with a Performance Pack.Ā
āThe first Polestar 4 rolling off the production line today is the culmination of hard work from countless colleagues and partners. Polestar 4 stands out in design and performance, a remarkable SUV coupĆ© in many ways,” Polestar CEOĀ Thomas Ingenlath said.
“It is the first Polestar to feature a virtual rear window with world-class digital rear-view mirror. This car plays a very important role in our growing line-up of exclusive performance EVs. It illustrates the value of our diversified and asset-light approach, making use of our partner and major shareholderās development and manufacturing expertise.ā
It is also the first Polestar to be manufactured at its parent company Geely Holdingās renewably powered Hangzhou Bay factory.Ā
According to Polestar, the Polestar 4 factory has the lowest carbon footprint of any Polestar car at launch.
The factory incorporates several methods and processes to reduce harmful waste:
- Non-chrome passivator to reduce water pollution
- Water-based paint to reduce volatile organic compound emissions
- Dry paper box filtering in the paint shop to remove paint mist, achieve zero wastewater generation during the spraying process, and effectively reduce air conditioning energy consumption by 60%
- Concentrator wheel and regenerative thermal oxidiser to effectively treat exhaust gases from the factory
This will not be the only factory producing the Polestar 4. The company plans to add a manufacturing plant in South Korea. This plant will export vehicles to the US as well and is expected to be opened by 2025.
Currently, Polestarās local lineup includes the Polestar 2 sedan with the upcoming larger Polestar 3 SUV also being showcased in recent months across Australia.Ā
The first deliveries of the Polestar 4 will be in China by next month before launches in other markets to be held in early 2024. Deliveries in those respective markets will also be planned for 2024.Ā
More information on the local specifications of the Polestar 4 is expected to be announced closer to the launch next year.
