Your Greenius is sorry to report that there’s been nothing but more bad news on the climate action scene in the past couple of weeks.

Maybe you missed last week’s issue of China Daily with the headline:

“No Intention of Capping Emissions“

“China has no intention of capping its greenhouse gas emissions even as authorities are committed to realizing the nation’s target to reduce carbon intensity through new policies and measures, the country’s top climate change negotiators said yesterday.  The negotiators also warned that rich and developing countries have little hope of overcoming key disagreements over how to fight global warming.

China “could not and should not” set an upper limit on greenhouse gas emissions at the current phase, said Su Wei, the chief negotiator of China for climate change talks in Copenhagen, at a meeting in Beijing on China’s climate change policies in the post-Copenhagen era.

But you don’t have to go to Communist Red China to find people who spew greenhouse gases but have no intention of capping their emissions.

Just mosey on over to the Republic of Texas where two of America’s biggest polluting oil companies are ponying up millions of dollars to pay for an initiative on the California ballot that would suspend our state’s Global Warming Solutions act, AB 32.

Valero and Tesoro are the Texas-based refineries and they’re not content to just make an environmental mess out of Texas, they’re also the #8 and #10 top polluting companies in California where they operate refineries.

And now they don’t want to have to pay the price for the carbon they burn, or for the impacts their CO2 emissions cause.

They want to take the money and run.  To hell with the consequences and too damn bad about your kids and their future.  And lots of luck ever getting back down to 350 ppm

Which makes them as unified with the Communist Party in China on this issue as any comrade could possibly be. They might as well be wearing Mao jackets and holding up their little red books.  Talk about UnAmerican.

In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if the folks who work at Valero and Tesoro also celebrate Communist dictator, Kim Jong-Il’s birthday as a company holiday.  After all, they share the same principles and ethics.  And they stand just as tall when it comes to doing the right thing.

And just like a classic communist state they’re using heavy handed propaganda to lie about reality and try and con the people into doing what’s bad for them. Which is why they’re spending $2 million just to get their initiative on the ballot.

And why they’ll spend even more with phony astroturfing and on the con artist front groups they bankroll, all pretending to be representing real citizens.  Just like the phony displays of citizen loyalty the communist countries turn out with placards making pretty pictures.
