Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman of BPCL announced that the investment will help BPCL be ready for the transition period when conventional fuel like petrol, diesel, CNG, and EVs along with hydrogen and flex-fuel will co-exist.

Last year, the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched an ‘e-drive initiative’ an electric three-wheeler mobility model.

It has partnered with electric vehicles manufacturer Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions Ltd and IIT Madras for technology support. BPCL has brought an on-stream supply of swappable lithium-ion batteries at its retail outlets in Kochi and Lucknow in the first phase for electric three-wheelers.

The Kinetic Green deployed its three-wheelers fleets in two cities which is owned by them and the drivers pay rental for use of vehicles and a fee for energy provided by BPCL. There is no maintenance cost.

BPCL is looking to create a 1,000 MW portfolio of renewable power generation capacity. It is targeting to convert 7,000 out of over 19,000 petrol pumps into energy stations in the medium to long term by offering multiple fueling options like petrol, diesel, Flexi fuels, EV charging facility, CNG and eventually hydrogen.
