Elli, the market leader among European charging network providers, with 500,000 charging stations, claims that it is the first business to reach a significant milestone in providing access to the infrastructure for charging. Volkswagen Group’s charging network has grown by 100,000 charging stations just in the previous four months.

With access to more than 950 providers across 28 countries, Elli offers clients a comfortable cross-border charging experience. E-mobility relies on a tight-knit charging network that is dependable, with charging stations that are simple to use. That’s what Elli is providing for Volkswagen Group EV drivers.

Thomas Schmall, CEO of Group Technology, says: “Half a million charging points in the Elli charging network represent an important milestone on our e-mobility roadmap. Together with our partners we are building a comprehensive, seamless charging network in Europe.”

Charging & Energy Are A Promising New Business Area For Volkswagen Group

Volkswagen Group has embraced the fundamentals of e-mobility. In order to make the electric mobility goal a reality, the company’s “Technology Board” is quickly putting its Technology Roadmap, presented at Power Day 2021, into action.

Rapid ramp-up of e-mobility requires rapid expansion of EV charging infrastructure. Volkswagen Group says that it wants to be a top provider of a smart energy and charging ecosystem. Since 2017, the number of collaborations and partnerships it has in place has steadily increased. Iberdrola, a Spanish energy company, and BP, a British energy company, are two of the strategic partners engaged in the expansion of its charging network, in addition to holding stakes in the joint venture companies IONITY and Ewiva.

More Convenience With Faster Charging & Plug&Charge

The level of convenience when charging a Volkswagen Group vehicle has also increased thanks to a variety of services and innovations. The Elli charging network now contains some 33,000 high-power charging (HPC) stations throughout Europe in addition to the traditional AC (alternating current) charging stations that are mostly found in urban locations. With new Plug&Charge technology, the process is as simple as can be — you just plug in and the car charges. Some 5,000 charging stations inside the Elli network now offer this feature.

As a mobility service provider (MSP), Elli offers a straightforward pricing plan for various types of charging stations, including fast chargers on the highway and AC charging stations for overnight charging. Elli serves drivers of all manufacturers of electric vehicles. The Drive Free, Drive City, and Drive Highway tariffs are available internationally and are applicable in all nations.

The prices can be calculated in advance by drivers online, taking into account their individual driving and charging habits. You can utilize the network if you’re a customer of Elli or the manufacturers SEAT & CUPRA (“Easy Charging”), KODA AUTO (“Powerpass”), or VW (“We Charge”). Also included in the portfolio since January 2023 is the AUDI billing service.

One of the fundamental infrastructure requirements for persuading consumers to purchase electric vehicles is a reliable network of charging stations. Adding roughly 25,000 charging stations per month should help with EV adoption in Europe.
