Even on land, getting oil from tar sands depletes water and other resources and doubles oil’s carbon footprint. Over time, we can conserve by reducing the miles we drive. That means we’ll be powering some miles with increasingly renewable electricity that isn't made from imported oil. And it will cost much less than you think.
