The Heartland Flyer operates daily between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth. In previously conducted stationary locomotive engine testing, the B20 blend reduced hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide each by 10%, reduced particulates by 15% and sulfates by 20%. The biodiesel blend is provided by a Texas-based vendor.

If a railroad replaced 4,500 EMD locomotives with corresponding GE locomotives, it would save approximately 72 million gallons of fuel a year and reduce its carbon emissions by more than 580,000 metric tons annually. According to the research study, GE’s locomotives are 6% more fuel-efficient compared to their EMD counterparts.
