On a visit to Pakistan with his parents, 7-year-old Aadeel Akhtar met a girl his age who was missing her right leg. He earned a bachelor's degree in biology in 2007 from Loyola University in Chicago. Two years later he was accepted into the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. and a Ph.D.
