Obama and Harper Establish US-Canada Clean Energy Dialog

As one outcome of their meeting today, US President Barack Obama’s and Canada Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced a senior-level US-Canada Clean Energy Dialogue that will cooperate on several critical energy science and technology issues, including:
- Expanding clean energy research and development;
- Developing and deploying clean energy technology; and
- Building a more efficient electric grid based on clean and renewable generation.
The two leaders discussed practical ways the United States and Canada could encourage the development of clean energy technologies to reduce greenhouse gases and combat climate change.
US and Canadian officials will meet in the coming weeks to launch the clean energy dialogue.
The two leaders did not commit to starting negotiations to limit greenhouse gas emissions through a North American climate change pact, nor was the issue of the environmental impact of the oil sands referenced in the public statements following the meetings.
Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach, whose province has the majority of the oil sands activity in Canada, said afterward that President Obama is “clearly speaking Alberta’s language.”
“What we’ve heard during the last couple of days from President Obama is he’s clearly speaking Alberta’s language,” Stelmach added. “Balancing the environment and the economy, investing in carbon capture and storage and technology, they’re all things that Alberta has been talking about.”
heh when the oil sands is such a cash cow and is influenced by the many powers.... you just gotta keep your mouth shut

Thank your lucky stars for the oil sands else we'd all be riding bicycles because we couldn't afford gas.
But then isn't that what eco freaks like Al Gore all of us do while they carry on with their life styles as usual.

I like what I’m hearing.
I like what Obama has to say.
I don’t like what he does.
That’s still pretty good: - 50%.

i just feel for the Albertians because their cancer rates are rising, but hey as long as it doesn't happen in my backyard (NIMBY) then you just can't complain.
