Report argues advanced HD natural gas vehicles foundational for California to hit air and climate goals; near zero-emission potential

Green Car Congress

Five technology paths for very-low-NO x and GHG emissions from heavy-duty natural gas engines. The “Pathways to Near-Zero-Emission Natural Gas Heavy Duty Vehicles” report, authored by GNA on behalf of Southern California Gas Co. An 80% reduction of GHG emissions is targeted for 2050, relative to 1990 levels. Click to enlarge.

Study first to quantify amount of US pollution resulting from Chinese manufacturing for exports

Green Car Congress

Dust, ozone and carbon can accumulate in valleys and basins in California and other Western states. When you buy a product at Wal-Mart, it has to be manufactured somewhere. China Emissions Manufacturing' We’ve outsourced our manufacturing and much of our pollution, but some of it is blowing back across the Pacific to haunt us.

Low-lying and other vulnerable countries calling for fast action on non-CO2 global warming pollutants

Green Car Congress

Among the non-CO 2 pollutants are hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), methane, tropospheric ozone, and black carbon soot. Ramanathan and Victor highlight the importance of aggressively reducing CO 2 emissions, but note that the road ahead will be long, difficult, and expensive, and that “in the meantime, a fast-action plan is needed.”

US Climate Action Report to UN Projects 4% Growth in Total US GHG Emissions to 2020

Green Car Congress

From 2005 through 2020, total US greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are projected to rise by 4% under a “with measures” scenario (but without a cap-and-trade program and other complementary policies), from 7,109 Tg CO 2 Eq. The report projects that transportation-related CO 2 emissions will drop 1.5% to 7,416 Tg CO 2 Eq., 5,813 Tg CO 2 Eq.

Cutting Non-CO2 Pollutants Can Delay Abrupt Climate Change; The Fast Action Climate Agenda

Green Car Congress

Current emissions of anthropogenic greenhouse gases (GHGs) have already committed the planet to an increase in average surface temperature by the end of the century that may be above the critical threshold for tipping elements of the climate system into abrupt change with potentially irreversible and unmanageable consequences, the authors write.
