BMW has announced that it will be bringing another compact SUV to its lineup here in Australia in the coming months.
The new iX2 is powered by a dual-motor powertrain capable of delivering up to 230 kW and 494 Nm of torque. This is paired with a 64.8 kWh battery pack that can provide up to 449 km of WLTP range.Ā
Interestingly, it’s one of the few EVs on the market that will also have capability of 22 kW of AC charging. This means that the battery can be fully charged in under 4 hours at a 22 kW three-phase AC charger, often found in shopping centres and other destinations.
BMW says the iX2 is able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and is capable of reaching a top speed of 180 km/h.
This latest SUV is based on the BMW X2, which dimension-wise comes in at:
- 4,554 mm in length
- 1,845 mm in width
- 1,590 mm in height
This is 54 mm longer than the current iX1, providing slightly more in length which may not translate into practical space given the sloppy roof in the rear.
In the boot of the iX2, there is 525 litres of space with the back seat up. This extends to 1,400 litres.
On the inside of the 5-seater SUV, there is the curved BMW infotainment screen which is likely to be similar to that found in the iX1.
Like the BMW iX1 that is currently being delivered to local BMW customers, the new BMW iX2 is also produced in the BMW Groupās plant in Regensburg, Germany.
The latest update comes on the back of the BMW X1 which has had a fairly good year of sales in the market, delivering 391 vehicles in 2023 so far.
In recent weeks. BMW has added a more affordable single-motor variant to the iX1 which is also expected to arrive in the coming months.
In other right-hand-drive markets like the UK, the iX2 is priced from Ā£56,540 ( or around $A108,000). For comparison, the iX1 xDrive30 in the UK starts at Ā£53,295.
More details on the pricing and detailed specifications of the local BMW iX2 will be available later this month. The latest model is expected to have its first customer deliveries in early 2024.
