Jeep has released the first pictures of the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S it will launch late this year and confirmed it hasn’t toned down either the 2022 concept’s performance or good looks.

Already confirmed it will be sold Down Under, the US car-maker has yet to release full details of when it will arrive here but the all-new Jeep Wagoneer S is likely to land either before the end of 2024 or early on in 2025.

When it arrives the Wagoneer S will look and drive like nothing else ever offered from the Jeep, not least because it will come powered by a mighty 447kW dual-motor powertrain that will enable it to launch from 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in just 3.5 seconds.

There’s no word yet on battery-size or official range, but it’s thought the new sleek SUV- coupe will be capable of covering around 650km on a single charge.

Designers hope as well as the performance most buyers will be won over by the way the BMW X6 or Range Rover Sport rival looks.

Adding to the drama is a new futuristic take on the brand’s seven-slot grille, with LED lighting used instead of outdated chrome. New ultra-slim headlamps will also add to the striking look, while its squared-off huge arches and rakish rear styling make the Wagoneer S the most style-obsessed Jeep in recent history.

Beneath the skin it’s thought the Wagoneer S will be among one of the first vehicles in the Stellantis group to be based on the car-maker’s all-new STLA Large EV architecture. When it comes to how big the latest Jeep EV is, think Jeep Grand Cherokee L-sized, rather than a match for the three-row combustion-powered Wagoneer it borrows its names from.

If so, expect battery-size to range from 85kWh to up to 118kWh with the most efficient models potentially tipped to come close to offering up to 800km of range. Despite the STLA Large platform being built for big cars rather than rugged off-roaders the Wagoneer S could still receive the 4×4-maker’s Trail Rated-certification – Jeep’s stamp of approval it gives to its most capable off-roaders.

That would mean it would have to match the very best 4x4s for traction, ground clearance, wading, off-road articulation and general capability off road. To help it, expect it to come with extra off-road hardware like limited-slip differentials and height-adjustable air springs.

As standard, even the cheapest versions will come with the firm’s 4xe all-wheel drive tech and have a traction-boosting all-terrain management system software that will pre-arm the car for dirt, snow and sandy conditions.

Both the Jeep Wagoneer S, and more rugged Recon that has also been confirmed for Australia, will only be powered by an all-electric powertrain with no option of combustion or hybrid powertrains.

In the US, the Jeep Wagoneer S is hotly tipped to be priced from $US80,000 to $US100,000 ($A122,000-$A153,000).
