The benefit of a higher voltage connector has nothing to do with the speed at which the battery will charge it has to do with the conductor size. I mean, when the electricity it uses is produces, pollution still happens, just not "right from your car"? The US standard is 120V@60hz the UK standard is 240V@50Hz. yay same plug!
