BYD won an order to deliver another 406 battery-electric buses to the Colombian capital of Bogotá, coming shortly after a previous announcement on 17 December of the delivery of the 470 pure electric buses to the city. BYD will co-work with Superpolo, a Colombian bus manufacturer, on the body part of the buses for such order.

BYD has exclusively won cumulative orders to supply 1,002 battery-electric buses to the capital of Colombia, Bogotá. BYD will partner with local bus manufacturers Superpolo and BUSSCAR respectively on the bus body parts. In addition to Bogotá, Colombia’s capital city, BYD buses operate in Medellin, Cali and elsewhere.

Johnson Controls has acquired 90% ownership of Colombian battery supplier MAC. Johnson Controls and MAC launched a joint venture in June 2011 to produce and sell lead-acid batteries in the Central and South American regions. The company is the market leader for automotive batteries in South America.

Eaton Corporation has signed a long-term agreement to design and supply Argentine bus manufacturer Tecnología Avanzada en Transporte S. The alliance will produce six preproduction units initially, followed by a production plan to manufacture 20 additional units in 2011.

China-based Yadea has launched its Z3 electric scooter, initially into 15 countries including China, Germany, Korea, and Colombia. The Yadea Z3 is powered by Panasonic 18650 battery cells. The battery cells are capable of keeping dynamic performance in environments from -10 to 55 ˚C (15 to 122 ˚F). Starting price is US$3,388.
