While lithium-ion batteries are more developed and have a higher density than sodium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries are cheaper, dependable, and have better cold-weather performance. During the late innings of the ICE-age (as in the Internal Combustion Engine age) it has become clear that feeding gasoline and diesel to the next billion new cars is not going to be easy, or cheap. Rustam Kocher: I think it’s going to be an issue for any company that has a large battery pack. Also, the demands for medium- and heavy-duty battery packs are much more complex.

April 10, 2009 10:09 am Link It amazes me that in the vast debate about electric cars world wide including here in Norway, no one ever mention the fact that the batteries in such cars need replacement in no more than five years. So imagine a million electric cars on US roads which all need to change these batteries in say 2015.
