Last week, as part of the little known and unadvertised “Bolt Buyback” program GM quietly created in response to the recall of all their 2017- 2019 Bolts, Chevy paid $37,900 to buy this car back from us. Toyota clearly had no love or expertise for pure Battery Electric Vehicles and was only interested in getting credit for a compliance car.

For battery-electric vehicles, the index remains at 55 in the US for the fourth consecutive quarter, while decreasing to 57 from 59 in Canada.

If GM wants to be believed, they need to do more than flap their lips, run hopeful ads and buy dinner for bloggers. Hell, they could simply sell the few EV1s they still have running around. They could encourage museums and universities with donated, disabled EV1s to rebuild them as electric cars and allow them on the roads.

Story includes a photo and gives some stats: Lithium batteries, 125 mile range, but no word on whether it's actually to go into production. There are at least a few thousand ex-EV1, EV+ and Th!nk nk City drivers waiting for the opportunity to buy a 75 -150 mile range EV. Cnet's story raises two important questions. Bring 'em on!

Paine was one of the first to lease a General Motors EV1 in 1997 — only to get the car wrenched away from him five years later when he took it in simply to get a brake light fixed. Many of our members, including myself, drove ZEV Mandate battery electric cars - GM EV1, Honda EV+, Ford Th!nk Many more of our members would like the choice to be available to buy electric and plug-in hybrids cars. Thousands of battery ZEVs were on the road in consumers hands a few short years ago.
