The London Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has begun a trial to test Suzuki Burgman hydrogen-powered scooters. The MPS is the only organization outside of Japan that Suzuki has approached to undertake such a trial. The trial is being run at no cost to the Met, with the loan of the vehicles from Suzuki Motor Corporation.

Suzuki Motor Corporation’s newly developed Swift Plug-in Hybrid, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2009 as a concept ( earlier post ), gained type approval from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on 12 May. At the Tokyo Motor Show next week, Suzuki will show three concept cars: an all-new Alto Concept for the minivehicle segment; a new Swift Plug-in Hybrid concept; and the SX4-FCV fuel cell vehicle, shown earlier in 2008. The Swift Plug-in Hybrid is a series hybrid incorporating a propulsion motor, a battery, and an engine-powered generator.

Yamaha is coming up with a range of 68 km due to two interchangeable battery packs on the bike scooter (50.4 Ah Li-ion batteries). A battery-powered version of the Burgman Street is presently being developed by Suzuki and is scheduled to be available here by the end of the year.
