Vision designed the Tyrano to replace short haul diesel trucks operating in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Tyrano is to be more powerful and less expensive to operate than current diesel or natural gas trucks and will exempt the truckers from the $70/container port tariff.

The second stage testing consisted of payload and speed evaluations. We are very pleased to confirm that our drive train is more powerful than required for the full class 8 heavy duty truck rating for an 80,000 lbs GVW. Our engineers also determined that we will have to electronically limit the engine torque to 1,800 foot pounds and to govern the top speed at 70 MPH. We are very excited about the results to date, and our performance testing will now continue with range and fuel efficiency evaluations.

Vision is a provider of hydrogen fuel cell/plug-in electric powered vehicles and turnkey hydrogen fueling systems. Vision’s proprietary hydrogen fuel cell/plug-in electric drive system combines the superior acceleration of a battery powered electric vehicle with the extended range provided by a hydrogen fuel cell. The Vision vehicles use plug-in electricity for the first portion of their journeys with the hydrogen fuel cell providing them with extended range.

The Tyrano carries 33 kg of compressed hydrogen and has an estimated range of 340 miles. The drive system delivers 300 kW (402 hp), and 3,200 lb-ft (4,339 N·m) of torque.
