Toyota has launched the new model RAV4 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) ( earlier post ) through dealerships in Japan. Since its debut in 1994, RAV4 has pioneered the crossover SUV market, and remains the market leader. Adequate temperature of the lithium-ion battery is maintained using an air conditioning coolant.

Now an eight-year veteran on the Australian scene, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. A new generation of the pioneering mid-sizer has just launched, with 45 per cent larger battery (now 20kWh), a pure electric range of up to 84km (NEDC), all-wheel-drive and seating for up to seven.

Ford also confirmed plans to bring an all-new fully electric small SUV to China within five years; the electric SUV will feature a range of up to 450 km (279 miles) and will also be marketed in North America and Europe. If the battery of the Mondeo Energi is running low, it can easily be charged at home or the office.

Exceeding its initial program targets, the plug-in 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid ( earlier post ) has earned an electric-mode fuel economy rating of 84 miles-per-gallon-equivalent (MPGe) from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The score relates to a vehicle’s combined performance on fuel economy and greenhouse-gas emissions.
