Hyundai and US DOE extend fuel cell vehicle loan partnership in concert with new DC-based hydrogen fueling station

The program involves Hyundai providing a number of Tucson Fuel Cell CUVs ( earlier post ) for daily use and confirmation by the DOE using existing hydrogen infrastructure. In February, Hyundai reported that Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell drivers had accumulated more than 1,000,000 miles on the roads and highways of Southern California. Tucson fuel cell vehicles will use this newest DOE-developed hydrogen station extensively.

And EVJerr's blogging from Tucson with a couple sites to hit -- the popular bookstore, Bookman's is installing two e-vehicle chargers at two sites and one in Phoenix (See Arizona Daily Star, Thursday, 3 Dec "Ground broken for e-vehicle chargers" article by Dan Sorenson). When fully charged, the vehicle is targeted to achieve a maximum electric-only range of approximately 13 miles and will be capable of achieving highway speeds up to 60 mph in electric-only mode.

One of the projects receiving support in the massive $2.4-billion award for advanced battery and electric drive projects from the US Department of Energy (DOE) ( earlier post ) will result in the largest deployment of an electric vehicle and supporting charging infrastructure yet undertaken. million, for installation of approximately 2,500 charging stations in each of five markets: Tennessee, Oregon, San Diego, Seattle and the Phoenix/Tucson region.
