New phase of globalization could undermine efforts to reduce CO2 emissions

A new study finds that the growth of carbon production from Chinese exports has slowed or reversed, reflecting a “new phase of globalization” between developing countries that could undermine international efforts to reduce emissions. The paper is published in Nature Communications.

The Paris Agreement looks to limit global warming to under 2 ˚C, with a more ambitious goal of 1.5 ˚C If the emissions gap is not closed by 2030, the report says, it is extremely unlikely that the goal of holding global warming to well below 2 ˚C can still be reached. GtCO 2 direct emissions and 0.28 C also on the table.

European Parliament calls for fast action to cut non-CO2 climate forcers

The European Parliament is calling for fast action to reduce non-CO 2 climate forcers including black carbon soot, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), methane, and ground-level ozone, which together are responsible for nearly half of climate forcing. Even cutting CO 2 emissions to zero today will not produce cooling for a thousand years.

ADB draft report says 3B Asians could become affluent by 2050; significant challenges

The draft report says that as the global economy’s center of gravity shifts toward Asia, the region could account for about half of global output in 2050, up from the current 27%, as well as half of global trade and investment. If these events occur, Asia would account for only 32%, or $61 trillion, of global GDP in 2050.
