Advanced Biofuels USA receives USDA grant for feasibility study of eastern shore energy beet-to-jetfuel project

The US Department of Agriculture has provided $16,893 to Advanced Biofuels USA , a Maryland-based 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization, for a feasibility study of producing bio-jetfuel from energy beets grown on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The study will look at the technical and economic aspects of a project being developed by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), Purdue University, and Maryland small businesses.

Simply plugging in one million electric cars (unmanaged or ad hoc charging) could add $750 million in annual wholesale energy costs unless smart charging is adopted, according to a joint study conducted by PJM Interconnection and Better Place, released by Better Place. PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia.

The selected 17 awards represent the best of nearly 1,000 ideas submitted for the FY 2012/13 Broad Based Topic Solicitation, DOE said. of Rockledge, Florida is developing a hybrid electric turbocharger for cars and trucks that both reduces fuel consumption and improves drivability by shortening the transient response time (reducing turbo lag) during acceleration.
