Preliminary survey results show 27% believe they will be using autonomous car by 2020, 49% a single mobility app

Preliminary results from a forthcoming 23-city global study from Xerox shows that by 2020, half of all respondents (49%) believe they will have one app for all their transportation needs and 27% of respondents believe they will be using a self-driving car.

The online survey was conducted among 18-65 year olds who hold a driver’s license. A final sample size of n=2,320 was achieved across 23 cities between the 6-22 September 2016: London (109); Melbourne (100); Sydney (100); Singapore City (101); Austin (100); Los Angeles (100); New York (100); Philadelphia (100); Portland (100); San Francisco (100); Washington DC (100); Kuala Lumpur (100); Amsterdam (100); Milan (100); Paris (104); Madrid (100); Brussels (101); Montréal (100); Toronto (104); México City (100); Santiago (101); Lima (100) and Frankfurt (100).

Full results from the study will be released in January 2017 from Conduent Incorporated, Xerox’s Post-Separation Business Processing Services Company.

Mobility is complicated, infrastructure is complex and widely using driverless technologies by 2020 is likely out of reach. However, there are ways cities can meet constituent innovation demands and show progress in that timeframe, including delivering a single, unified mobility app.

Earlier this year, Xerox debuted its own unique mobility app that is currently piloting in Los Angeles, Denver, Centennial and Bengaluru. The “Go” app captures the universe of transportation options available in a city and computes the quickest, cheapest and most sustainable way to reach a destination.

Xerox is showcasing its “Go” apps at ITS World Congress in Melbourne, Australia.

Could that many people jump start SDVs by 5+ years?

I don't see fully autonomous in 4 years. There will be more driver assist but not full autonomous at the speed limits every where for quite a while.
