AeroVironment licenses PNNL EV smart charger controller technology

has licensed smart charging controller technology developed at the US Department of Energy (DOE) Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) for incorporation into its charging station equipment. Prototypes of the new AeroVironment charging system are available for beta testing.

Additionally, this project will provide utilities with access to energy usage data that can help improve smart grid operations, reduce power strain during peak charging times, and ensure reliable energy distribution to customers.

Where Hohm has an established partnership with a utility—there are currently four: Xcel Energy, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Seattle City Light, and Puget Sound Energy—the utility partners will make datafeeds available for their residential customers who sign up for Hohm, so that they can automatically receive their energy consumption, pricing, and carbon information. Microsoft Hohm is available today for free to all US residential energy consumers.
