2024 Toyota bZ4X pricing announced – be very afraid Tesla Model Y
Market leader Toyota has launched its first electric vehicle in Australia, the bZ4X SUV, and priced it just $600 higher than the entry-level Tesla Model Y.
The bZ4X range starts with the $66,000 single motor two-wheel drive (2WD) and climbs to the $74,900 all-wheel drive (AWD). Both prices are before on-road costs.
The top-selling Tesla Model Y starts from $65,400 for the rear-wheel drive entry-level model, progresses through the $78,400 all-wheel drive Long Range and tops out with $91,400 AWD Performance.

Other rivals include the Hyundai Ioniq priced from $65,000 to $84,000 and the Kia EV6 priced from $72,590 to $99,590. The bZ4X’s twin sibling the AWD-only Subaru Solterra starts at $69,990 and tops out at $76,990.
The 2WD bZ4X is powered by a 150kW/266Nm e-motor mounted on the front axle, while the AWD’s dual motor set-up offers 160kW/337Nm.
Both models have a 71.4kWh (gross) lithium-ion battery pack that equates to a 436km range for the 2WD and 411km for the AWD. The maximum DC fast-charging rate is 150kW.
The bZ4X is covered by Toyota Warranty Advantage, which offers up to five-year unlimited kilometre coverage extending to seven-years on motor and driveline with log-book services. The high-voltage battery is covered for up to 10 years.
Toyota also offers capped-price servicing for the first five years/75,000km with each 12-month/15,000km service costing $180.
Interestingly, the bZ4X will also be offered with a full-service lease, in which Toyota retains ownership of the vehicle, and all costs – registration, insurance, maintenance – are all bundled into a monthly fee. At the end of the three-year term, the customer can hand the vehicle back with no extra payment. The cost of the lease is yet to be confirmed, with Toyota saying the rate will be personalised based on location and use of the vehicle.
