IEA working paper highlights potential role of natural gas in reducing global road transport CO2

Green Car Congress

The global natural gas vehicle fleet has grown rapidly in the last 10 years, but still represents less than 1% of global transport fuel consumption. The global fleet of NGVs consists largely of passenger cars/LDVs, although there are some regional differences. Tags: Climate Change Emissions Heavy-duty Natural Gas.

IEA technology and policy reports outline paths to halving fuel used for combustion-engined road transport in less than 40 years

Green Car Congress

Among the key findings of this report are: Most technologies for improving the fuel economy of two-wheelers, light-duty vehicles (LDV) and heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) are already commercially available and cost-effective. Although fuel-efficient technologies are commercially available, they are not yet widely enough deployed.

Study suggests current levels of methane leakage would result in numerous decades of more rapid climate change from a shift to natural gas vehicles

Green Car Congress

Using this approach, they found that converting a fleet of cars from gasoline to CNG would result in decades of more rapid climate change because of greater radiative forcing in the early years after the conversion. Reductions in CH 4 leakage are needed to maximize the climate benefits of natural gas. Alvarez, Stephen W.
