Though the scheme proved so popular that the initial $1billion set aside for it ran out last month, auto sales only rose by 2.4 per cent in July suggesting that American consumers are still nervous about their jobs and the economy. A money saving scheme that’s proving costly. So is this scheme green at all?

But after interviewing Ford’s Nancy Gioia at the recent Detroit Auto show, I’m now unsure of both the timescales involved, or how much the power and auto companies are behind it as a fundamental concept. That will solve these problems, not big government, big auto or big energy. In fact, almost none at all.
