Hyundai Ioniq 5 N NPX1 adds even more performance to hot-rod electric car

For those who just can’t get enough performance, the 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N NPX1 concept has been unwrapped at the Tokyo Auto Salon previewing a whole raft of new upgrades for the fast battery-powered SUV.

Looking more like the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup racer than something road legal, the Hyundai IONIQ 5N NPX1 comes with a carbon-fibre front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, rear wing spoiler and ultra-lightweight carbon-fibre composite rims.

Sitting lower to the ground than standard, the brakes have also been boosted with the addition of new high-performance brake pads.

Inside, there’s a pair of Alcantara-wrapped bucket seats that do a better job of dealing with the inevitable higher g-forces.

Set to be further developed before all the parts are offered for sale in the coming months, Hyundai N – the performance division behind the upgrades – says it is also working on ‘advanced powertrain upgrades’ suggesting the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N could be in store for even more power than the 478kW and 740Nm of torque the stock car kicks out.

If so, expect the 0-100km/h sprint of 3.4 seconds to tumble further into hypercar territory.

As well as physical parts, the performance sub-brand is also readying new over-the-air updates that could introduce new driving modes, or soundscapes, as well as even more power.

At the Tokyo Auto Salon, Hyundai N announced that as well as improving the performance of the IONIQ 5 N it was also readying a new range of go-faster parts for its combustion models too.

In Australia the Korean car-maker will begin handing over the first batch of $111,000 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Ns to customers next month with demand reportedly continuing to outstrip supply.
