Basic Motors plans to do away with about 200 engineering positions, even though the workers in the ones roles will be capable of journey to alternative jobs.

In a observation, a GM spokesperson stated the automaker “is taking steps to rebalance our engineering resources to better align with our growth strategy. This will require a small number of engineers to move to other parts of the organization over the next several months. We will work with those who are affected and provide them with an opportunity to apply for open positions.”

CEO Mary Barra stated on GM’s second-quarter profits name in July that the corporate is launching a technique referred to as “Winning with Simplicity,” which is anticipated to decrease design and engineering prices and shed complexity in automobile orders and production. GM is aiming to decrease scale down ranges in part, which “results in fewer part numbers to simplify marketing, engineering, manufacturing, while maintaining the best features customers want,” Barra stated.
