The 2022 Beijing auto show, which was scheduled to take place in April, has been canceled after being postponed.

Facing severe challenges for the country's epidemic prevention and control, the 17th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2022) will not be held in 2022, the event's organizers said in a statement today.

The exact date of the next edition of the show will be announced when available, according to the statement.

Auto China has been held every two years in Beijing since 1990, and has been held for 16 previous editions.

By now, the event has become a top international auto show with the active participation of global automakers, high attention from all walks of life and wide international influence.

The last Auto China was postponed to September 26 - October 5, 2020 due to Covid.

At the end of April last year, the organizers of the event announced that Auto China 2022 will be held simultaneously in the new and old halls of the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing from April 21 to April 30, 2022, with an estimated total exhibition area of 230,000 square meters.

On April 2, the event's organizers announced that the event would be postponed due to the severe Covid prevention and control situation.

Since this year, the more frequent regional Covid outbreaks have led to great challenges in organizing such large-scale events.

The Chengdu auto show began as planned on August 26, but was prematurely terminated on August 30 after only four days of the event due to new local Covid control requirements.

On November 4, the organizing committee of the Guangzhou auto show announced that the show, which was scheduled to take place from November 18 to 27, would be postponed, saying that the Covid situation in Guangzhou was still in a developing stage and the epidemic prevention and control situation was serious.

Notably, in Beijing's neighboring city of Tianjin, another auto show, which was scheduled to take place from November 10 to November 15, started today as normal.

China added 1,133 confirmed cases of Covid and 7,691 asymptomatic infections on November 9, according to data released today by health authorities.

Guangdong added 500 confirmed cases of Covid and 2,507 asymptomatic infections yesterday; Beijing added 34 confirmed cases of Covid and 61 asymptomatic infections yesterday; and Tianjin added 2 confirmed cases of Covid and 37 asymptomatic infections yesterday.
