Visiting Ford EV Center, Biden says, “The future of the auto industry is electric”

This week, President Joe Biden visited the Ford Motor Company Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, getting a preview of the all-electric version of their F-150 pickup truck, which is the highest-selling vehicle in the country.

“The future of the auto industry is electric,” said President Biden. “There’s no turning back. … The real question is whether we’ll lead or we’ll fall behind in the race to the future.” We couldn’t agree more.

The official reveal of the Ford F-150 Lightning will take place Wednesday, May 19 at 9:30 pm ET/6:30 pm PT. Almost exactly four years ago, Plug In America called on Ford to dream big and create an electric version of its F-150 pickup truck. Today, we are very pleased to see that the nation’s #1 vehicle will soon be available as an EV, but we also want to hear the details. We hope they will rapidly scale up production so it can be available in every Ford dealer in all 50 states.

The F-150 Lightning is among the new electric truck options that will soon become available, including the Tesla Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T, and the GMC Hummer EV.

Between the launch of these new EV models and the strong EV policy coming from the Biden administration, things are looking up for the electrification of our transportation and creating cleaner air for all to breathe. We will continue ensuring that the voices of EV drivers, like you, are heard by policymakers shaping the future of electric transportation!
