South Korean automaker Hyundai has launched its Mighty Electric truck in Australia, with a starting price of $150,000 – plus on road costs – and a 114.5kWh battery that delivers up to 200 kilometres of range.
The Mighty Electric will join the brand’s other EVs, including the Kona Electric, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6, but is its first push to commercial vehicles and “last mile” transport logistics.
John Kett, the COO of Hyundai Motor Company Australia, said the Mighty Electric generated a huge amount of interest when it was previewed at the Brisbane Truck Show in May.
“The Hyundai Mighty Electric makes for the ideal last mile or back-to-base light-duty commercial truck, for businesses wanting to reduce their driving emissions,” Kett said.
“The Mighty Electric is best suited to urban environments, with its zero driving emissions, a quiet electric motor and high energy efficiency at lower speeds. The smoothness and quietness of operation will help reduce driver fatigue and enhance road safety.”
Measuring 6140mm in length with a 3300mm wheelbase, the Mighty Electric delivers an available 4050kg payload (less the weight of a fitted body) and a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 7300kg.
Offered as a Cab Chassis, the Hyundai Mighty Electric can be purchased with a Hyundai Genuine Accessories Alloy Tray at additional cost, which is available to be fitted at dealerships. Customers are also free to fit their own bodies.
A Pantech box body is set to follow.
The 114.5kWh lithium-ion (LFP) battery provides up to 200km of range when the Mighty Electric is loaded to its maximum GVM of 7300kg. This range test, according to Hyundai, was performed in a tray body configuration with air conditioning turned on and took place in typical Australian urban conditions.
Recharging the Mighty Electric can be done through a maximum of 6.6kW AC or up to 100kW of 800V DC fast-charging power using a CCS 2 combo charging port.
A range of additional features including two-stage regenerative braking and numerous cabin and safety features are also included as standard and can be found in greater detail here.
Servicing intervals are set at 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first, and service pricing has been calculated out to 12 years/240,000km. Highlighting one of the many benefits of electric vehicles, standard scheduled servicing costs for the first five years/100,000km amount to less than $4,300.
The Mighty Electric is now on sale through a network of six appointed dealers, with plans to expand the network further over the coming months. The current network of dealers is made up of the following:
Dealer Name | Region |
Peninsula Hyundai Truck and Bus | ER |
Adtrans Hyundai Trucks | ER |
Adtrans Hyundai Trucks | SR/TAS |
Hyundai Truck Centre Canberra | ACT |
WA Hyundai Trucks | WR |
Gold Coast Hyundai Trucks | NR |
