The vehicles and infrastructure being funded include the use of natural and renewable gas, propane, ethanol, biodiesel, electricity, and hybrid technologies. The program includes the installation of 10 alternative fuel refueling sites (two B20, one Electric Recharging, and seven CNG). Total DOE award: $15,000,000.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs ) would combine today's new gas-electric hybrid technology with larger batteries that could provide an all-electric operating range of 25 to 35 miles or more. The campaign has been led by the municipally-owned utility in Austin. The result is an 80+ mile-per-gallon vehicle.

T his week's meeting of the Electric Drive Transportation Association in Washington was accompanied by some significant announcements. Plug-in vehicles would combine today’s new electric-flex fuel (gas and/or biofuels such as ethanol) hybrid technology with a larger battery that could be recharged by plugging it into a standard wall sockets.
