Recent data from car leasing firm Hippo Leasing UK has indicated that the Tesla Model 3 is the most searched car model in the United States. Over the past six months, the all-electric sedan saw 3,819,000 Google searches from US users.
As noted in an Autoblog report, Hippo Leasing analyzed search data for over 340 electric, hybrid, and gas-powered cars across various brands. Data for the study was collected from August 2023 to January 2024, with vehicles being filtered and ranked for both the United States and the UK.
The Model 3’s dominance in the US highlights the vehicle’s popularity in the country. This is particularly interesting as the new variant of the Model 3, the highly-anticipated Project Highland update, was unavailable in the United States until January 2024. Until this January, the upgraded Model 3 sedan was only available in China and territories that are supplied by Giga Shanghai.
Following the Tesla Model 3 were the Honda CR-V and the Honda Civic, both of which saw 3,669,000 online searches. The Tesla Model 3’s crossover stablemate, the Model Y, was also among the most searched car models in the United States in the past six months.
While the Model 3 was the most searched car in the United States, the all-electric sedan does not seem to have garnered as much interest in the UK. For the UK, the Nissan Qashqai emerged as the most popular, with about 815,000 searches during the past six months. The Kia Sportage followed with 765,000 searches, and the Audi A3, which saw 685,000 searches, rounded out the UK’s top three.
As noted by Hippo Leasing UK in a blog post, the Nissan Qashqai is very popular in the UK, so its place in the country’s online search rankings is unsurprising. The Kia Sportage, on the other hand, likely saw some interest due to its new hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. The Audi Q3 is a family favorite in the UK as well.
