With the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show less than two weeks away the German auto industry is starting to really crank out the concept cars. Latest in the onslaught of new German metal is the Audi A2 concept. Audi launched a production A2 subcompact back in 1999. It was never sold in the U.S.

Since a concept version was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, all eyes have been on Audi's electric crossover to be the auto-industry establishment's first true rival to the Tesla Model X. But another luxury brand could beat Audi to the punch.

VW, Daimler subsidiary Daug and Varta developed a NimH battery in the early 90s, and the VW group put the Audi duo hybrid on the road in 1997. I dunno if it’s the biggest surprise, but the most pleasing news of 2022 was the way the irrepressible die-hards in what remains of the Aussie auto industry leapt on the opportunity EV presents. Upcoming entries include the Audi Q4 e-tron, Kia EV6, Nissan Ariya, Subaru Solterra, Toyota bZ4X, and a Chevrolet crossover to be launched in 2023. The Ioniq 5 was previewed in September 2019 by the Hyundai 45 Concept, a styling exercise that harkened back to the company’s very first car. 4 are already on sale. Heritage style.

The entire auto industry has given up on investing in Hydrogen cars. Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi who initially tried to play the H2 game, but now are totally anti-Hydrogen and are investing in battery electric cars. The first car on the eTNGA platform was shown in this year’s Auto Shanghai motor show.
