Which major battery supplier has 9-minute-charging solid-state cells and a 20-year EV battery in its sights? The Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX, both based on GM’s Ultium battery and propulsion platform and assembled by GM, will both qualify for the full $7,500 EV tax credit , the brands confirmed this week.

Other automakers offer it as an option, but the solar roof systems either only power auxiliary features and not the actual powertrain’s battery pack, or they only provide a few miles of range per day. At 165 lbs (75 kg), the weight is not much of an issue, but the hit on aerodynamic performance should certainly be significant.

The rebooted Aptera Motors has teamed with Elaphe Propulsion Technologies on a long-range, volume production electric vehicle powered by in-wheel motors. Aptera, initially known as Accelerated Composites, formed in 2005 to bring highly efficient, three-wheeled vehicles to the market ( earlier post ), went out of business in 2011.
