EIA: China promoting both fuel efficiency and alternative-fuel vehicles to curb growing oil use

Increasing oil demand is requiring increasing imports; since 2009, China has been importing more than half of its petroleum needs. Under the Energy Saving and New Energy Vehicle Plan for 2012 to 2020 released in 2012, average passenger car fuel economy is targeted to increase to 34 miles per gallon (6.9 l/100 km) by 2020.

Euro Parliament Transport Committee backs draft directive mandating expansion of alternative fuel stations; grandfathering CHAdeMO

The draft rules aim to reduce dependence on oil and boost take-up of alternative fuels, so as to help achieve a 60% cut in greenhouse gas emissions from transport by 2050. A sufficient number of CNG refueling points should be available, at maximum intervals of 100 km (62 miles).
