Linc Energy Ltd has acquired the grant of 181,414 acres of Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) coal exploration licences in Alaska from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority following a competitive bidding process. The gaining of this acreage marks Linc Energy’s entry into stage two of its Alaska plan.

This FOA, issued in August 2017, is a $50-million funding opportunity for projects supporting cost-shared research and development to design, construct, and operate two large-scale pilots to demonstrate transformational coal technologies. Some of these technologies are now ready to proceed to the large-scale pilot stage of development.

Underground coal gasification company Linc Energy has completed the drilling of the LEA #1 exploration well in the Point Mackenzie Block of the Cook Inlet Basin in Alaska, USA. Linc said this will allow technical teams to plan a testing program to evaluate the potential for commercial gas production from the prospect.

Alaska Native corporation Cook Inlet Region Inc. Laurus Energy have formed Stone Horn Ridge LLC, a company created to commercialize syngas from underground coal gasification (UCG). The Anchorage, Alaska-based joint venture is developing syngas for power generation, synthetic liquid fuels and other industrial applications.

BP and Davy Process Technology announced collaborations with three EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractors to promote the commercialization of the BP/Davy Fischer-Tropsch (FT) Process. The BP/Davy fixed-bed FT process produces diesel, jet fuel (JP8) and naphtha from natural gas, biomass- or coal-derived syngas.

A core group of 15 commercial airlines has signed non-binding memoranda of understanding (MOUs) for negotiating purchases from two different producers of synthetic jet fuel: AltAir Fuels LLC and RenTech Inc. J0.01) formally voted upon and passed a new fuel specification that will enable use of synthetic fuels in commercial aviation.
