Hyundai Motor Company introduced the Autonomous IONIQ concept during its press conference at AutoMobility LA (Los Angeles Auto Show). Hyundai Motor is also developing its own autonomous vehicle operating system, with the goal of using much less computing power. Road construction and roadblocks. Speed bumps.

For evidence, look no further than its top marks in the EV Cannonball , accomplished by crossing the 2,811 miles from Manhattan to Los Angeles in just 44 hours and 25 minutes. But the two EVs that I am particularly excited about are the Kia EV-6 and its first cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. But we are living it today.

High demand/brand new models such as the BMW i4, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Hyundai IONIQ 5 are in extremely high demand and short supply on dealership lots. In larger metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, Atlanta, or Seattle, where EVs are in high demand, prices are higher but have more inventory available than in suburban or rural areas.

The case that I made for the Senate is that bidirectional capabilities, with the right V2G business model, can reduce the total cost of ownership of an EV, and therefore make EVs more affordable. Kia, Hyundai will be launching bidirectional-capable vehicles. We are in the process of commissioning those charging stations right now.
